Cholesterol is a major risk factor for heart health and can affect anyone. It is
impossible to tell if you are affected by cholesterol just by the way you look or
feel, your weight or fitness level.
That’s why it’s so important to have your cholesterol level tested.
And now that we are offering quick, easy and free cholesterol tests across the country,
you have a great opportunity to find out your real cholesterol status in 3 easy
steps.
Step 1:
A staff member will give you a consent form and questionaire to fill out whilst
you wait
Step 2:
A trained nurse will then ask you to take a seat so they can conduct a basic
fingerprick cholesterol test
Step 3:
The nurse will then prick your finger to obtain a small drop of blood and apply
it to a testing strip which will give your results in 3 minutes.
The cholesterol test we are conducting is a basic finger prick cholesterol test
that estimates your total cholesterol. If your total cholesterol
is greater than
5.5mmol/L
or you have other risk factors, a more complete test that provides additional information
including total, LDL and HDL cholesterol levels may be recommended. The nurse will
let you know whether a consultation with your General Practitioner is advised. A
GP will be able to do a detailed risk assessment of your heart health and provide
further advice. An Accredited Practising Dietitian can also be helpful to give specific
dietary advice for cholesterol management.
